Founding Principal Steve Cook approached Meme to re-imagine the interiors of a long closed struggling public secondary school in a prestigious location.
The brief for this project was to transform an outdated institutional interior into a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. In addition to this, Meme took a holistic approach to the school’s brand collaborating with Studio Round for the identity, Work Art Life for wayfinding signage and MAP Furniture and Egans Auctions for furniture to build a contemporary public school model.
With Cook’s trust and vision, the space was officially de-institutionalised as standard joinery details and jarring colour selections were replaced with warm colours, textures and materials, including re-purposed furniture that added character to an interior encouraging social connections.
Meme’s approach to creating a cohesive conversation between the interior, brand, materials, furniture and people all work to build a strong sense of place, which was integral in anchoring this public school’s identity in a suburb where private schools prevail.
